“I Ride for Andy.”
Kelly Sack, age 43, 5th time rider.
Why do you Red Ribbon Ride? When I participate in the Red Ribbon Ride, all is right with the world. I am full of joy. My mind is free and clear. I have the most precious and powerful conversations with myself. It’s when I feel most at home. It’s when I honor who I am. I feel mighty. Anything is possible. A profound peace is present. This didn’t happen overnight. These feelings grow stronger and more powerful with each year as I continue to be a cyclist and fundraiser for the Red Ribbon Ride. Together, we tackle challenging hills, and sometimes rain, wind or heat, and together we go soaring down hills, with the wind at our backs and joy in our hearts! The Red Ribbon Ride is my favorite four days of the year!
What is your favorite thing about the Red Ribbon Ride? The generous spirt that people share while participating in the Red Ribbon Ride!
What do you do away from the Red Ribbon Ride? I am the proud mom of a 10-year old boy and I just celebrated 16 years of marriage! I work (or more appropriately said, “play”) as a design associate at a home furnishings company. My favorite hobby is riding my bike during spring, summer and fall.
How were you introduced to Red Ribbon Ride? My dear friend Andy Ansell.
What is one great memory you can share from your ride/crew experience in the past? Riding up to the state capitol and seeing the proud look on my nine-year old son’s face while holding up his handmade sign that said “Go MOM”!
What would you tell someone who is on the fence about joining our ride next year? The ride will forever change you. Your view of yourself will change. Your view of others will change. It’s a very moving experience that will be part of your story forever. You’ll be proud that you chose to be part of something that challenges you and others and makes a difference in our community!
What person or group of people are you hoping to bring to the ride this next year? I’m bringing my friend Bryan as a first year rider to the 2016 ride!
What is your fundraising goal this year? My goal is to raise $2,000 this year. My approach is simple. I ask everyone I know. Some people donate and some don’t, however, it’s surprisingly easy to reach my goal.
Is there anything else you’d like to say to our Red Ribbon Ride community? I love and appreciate each of you for all you do to make this ride happen!
